storm doors or heavy-duty screen doors for a Mission home

A family member has given me a very nice birthday present – my choice of storm or other similar screen doors for my front and back doors, the only two entrances to my home. All of those that I see at Home Depot and Lowe's are either flimsy wood or vinyl or aluminum, or very ugly heavy metal security doors.

Does anyone have suggestions for either a heavy-duty wooden screen door – something a toddler and a couple of cats can't push through – or something more substantial?

  1. Try S-N-T Sacramento. They had some really nice wooden screen doors in many styles. I had one years ago for my bungalow in McKinley Park. The screen door is still there and looking great. They are made with Doug Fir as I recall.

  2. Erin, thanks for that recommendation! I hadn’t heard of them before, but just got off the phone with the owner and he was extremely helpful, and is going to leave some brochures out for me to pick up after work tonight. I think I will be hiring them once I pick out the right doors!

  3. We had our door made about 25 years ago. A friend needed one 52 inches wide for his Craftsman bungalow and the guy made one for him. Back then this guy was out in Woodland, but I am not sure where he is located now. I was glad to see his screen doors are still available.
