Craftsman Homes For Sale

a roundup of selected Craftsman properties around the country currently on the market:

  • Chris Golde is selling her 2000+ square foot 1923 Prairie / Craftsman home in Madison, replete with lots of interesting and well-maintained woodwork and hardware, for $319,700.
  • Here’s a bright and attractive Rockridge bungalow for sale in Oakland California for $689,000 – a lot but not out of the ordinary for that eternally bubble-icious market. Barbara Hendrickson at Red Oak Realty is the seller’s agent; unlike a lot of the real estate agencies I rant about here, Red Oak does most of their work in a market full of older homes, and their agents are quite savvy to Craftsman style and the histories of the homes they sell.
  • A spectacular new / custom wood-shingle uber-bungalow on the north shore of Washington’s Orcas Island for $739,000.
  • A recently-restored Atlanta bungalow in the Kirkwood neighborhood for $260,000.
  • A well-kept bungalow in Brookhaven, Mississippi will run you only a bit under $88,000 – even this pretty little house with a new kitchen and a big wrap-around deck. If I could telecommute – and if all the Thai, sushi and pho restaurants I frequent would deliver that far – I’d consider moving to the midwest just to save a few hundred thousand dollars.

  1. How odd to run across this blog and see a name that’s familiar, but not for design reasons. Chris Golde was my college roommate. Her very handsome Madison house was on the market for about a week — in 2001.

  2. Anyone have any expereince / advice on buying a craftsman and moving it?
Our idea is this, ..we can find a good craftsman in crappy area riddled with gangs etc (Oxnard or Santa Paula) CA …and then move it to ventura or Ojai. any tips?

  3. My advice: buy a large gun & stock plenty of ammo, and let’s not forget the beef jerky! Hunker down and take care of business!
    My two cents.

  5. We need to sell our house in CA that we extensively remodeled in the Arts and Crafts style. Is there a website that you would recommend? We would really like to see the house sold to someone who appreciates this style, and all of the custom work that we did (reproduction lighting, stenciling, etc.)

  6. Our Bungalow–“We have a 1925-1930s Craftsman”– is still available and can be seen on Realtor.com. Specify Lancaster, MA and/or MLS # 70509422 for more information. Thank you.

  7. Hello Kris,
The house is still available and is located south of Rte 2, abutting Fort Devens, and is surrounded by the towns of Leominster, Shirley, Harvard, Bolton, Clinton, and Sterling. Lancaster is the Mothertown, incorporated in 1653. The other towns are offspring. The lot is just shy of 1/2 an acre at .42 acres. 9. I hope that sellers continue to add craftsman houses to this great site! Looks like the last house that was listed was a year ago this coming June. Aside from not being updated recently, this is an excellent website and is a GREAT idea for those looking for a craftsman/bungalow style home! Shelby :o)

  10. We have a 3/2 Craftsman Bungalow in the foothills of North Carolina about 50 miles from Asheville. My husband’s job is taking us out of the state. We have renovated the home. New Roof with 30 year architectural shingles, updated wiring and plumbing, new furnace, new wooden siding and home professionally re-painted. Totally re-landscaped property. We’re in a very quaint, nice small town friendly atmosphere. It would make a wonderful vacation home, or retirement home. Near beautiful Lake Lure. Original hardwood floors. Interior painted with appropriate bungalow colors using Benjamin-Moore Paint. Formal dining room and butler’s pantry with eat in kitchen. Very nice laundry room.
Master bedroom is very nice with french doors leading out to elevated screened in porch. Nice Large deck off back of house.
Just a very quaint, cozy home. Kitchen has granite countertops with new cabinets. Upgraded appliances.
    Asking: 187,900.
Please email for pictures and more info.

  13. on the matter of finding a nice bungalow in a crappy neighborhod. and moving it. I found a nice 1915 craftman asking only 77,000 dollars. the craftsman next door had burned down after it was forclosed on. I offered 70,000 and got it. Instead of moving it out, I put in a new foundation and restored the siding and upgraded the interior. I find if you move in and fix up an old clunker, the whole neighborhod and street also improves. rathar than just fixing a house. you fix a whole neighborhood, provide jobs, and give people some hope. I did the same thing before and found some nice tenants, who attracted other nice tenants, and soon everyone on the block fixed up their house as well. I later sold that house for 5 times what I originally paid . you can do good and do well at the same time. I am currently renting my 70,000 dollar house out for 1700 per month. pretty good return on investment. as well as the satisfaction of restoring a 100 year old house. better than ripping off the community and leaving a vacant lot. vince.
