For the bargain price of $275, this antique doorbell set can be yours. One in stock, available from Rejuvenation Hardware in Portland, Oregon; $22 shipping to the rest of the US.

I saw several similar in Nova Scotia where they are quite popular; they were all painted black, though.

  • Jay Curtis: “ArtGlass & Metal” in the Arts & Crafts tradition

    Jaycurtisglassclose
Jay Curtis is a craftsman specializing in etched glass and metal, and his techniques include "water-jet cutting, hand painting, airbrushing, leading, beveling and glue-chipping." His work ranges from the whimsical to the elegant, and much of it is very strongly influenced by the floral designs of the Arts & Crafts Movement.

One recent line of products includes etched "special occasion" bowls, available for sale through the website.

Photos of Jay’s more Arts & Crafts-influenced work are up in our art glass album on Flickr.

  • Arts & Crafts on Ebay: August 2007

There are plenty of interesting pieces of A&C furniture and ceramics on Ebay right now – almost 50% more than I usually see up there, with some neat Roycroft pieces and pretty tiles too. Maybe people are cleaning out their own collections this summer, or trying to cover the costs of their rising mortgages by selling off family treasures (I hope not!). Here are some items closing soon that caught my eye:

    • very pretty L & JG Stickley "game table"
    • super-clean Limbert desk
    • new-looking L&JG Stickley lamp table c1915
    • beautiful Roycroft silver / copper vase
    • very interesting and probably one-off child’s bed, probably made for the Roycroft Inn
    • Roycroft copper vase
    • big stack of Roycroft pamphlets / brochures
    • Old Mission Kopperkraft eucaluptus-design bowl
    • unique German-made (Herweg) hammered-silver matchbox holder

  • we’re #1 (for houseporn, at least)

I noticed today that we were getting an awful lot of visitors who found us from Google searches for "houseporn." 200 today alone! After checking, I found that we were the number 1 result for this rather odd search term. Not that I’m complaining.

So, to accomodate all of you, some very G-rated houseporn (my favorite kind):

  • Urban Archaeology: architectural salvage in New York City

Urban Archaeology, with showrooms in Manhattan, Bridgehampton, Boston and Chicago, has been in the business of saving urban architectural treasures since they opened their Manhattan store in 1978.

In addition to a large stock of salvaged materials, they have also developed their own line of lighting, bath accessories, washstands and medicine cabinets based on popular historic designs.

As far as salvage goes, though, this is no scrapyard, but rather the highest end of the collectible architectural antique sellers.
