This past Wednesday, I mentioned Sacramento’s Cranston-Geary House in passing. An enormous, beautiful, and somewhat unorthodox Craftsman home just a few blocks from my house, it’s one of Sacramento’s large number of National Register of Historic Places structures and is, from what I’ve heard, completely restored to its original luster inside and out. I wouldn’t mind taking a peek inside and posting a photo gallery here, if I can get around to contacting the owners.
Interesting fact: the architect, George C. Sellon, was California’s first state architect – as well as the designer of San Quentin Prison. Thanks to Sacramento Historic House for that tidbit!
Hey, I’m a big follower of this blog, partially because of my job as a non-profit researcher/house historian. The MN Historical Society created an interesting wiki site that you and others might like. http://www.placeography.org It’s based on wikipedia only centered on physical locations. It was started in Minnesota, but the focus has been relaxed to include pretty much everywhere. A lot of people working on house histories post here. Also historic districts, nationally registered properties etc. For people interested in build environment history this is your spot. Enjoy!
That is one beautiful craftsman home, and very well maintained as well. Would love to see some photos of the interior.
That is my favorite Craftsman in Sacramento. The new landscaping a few years ago with drought tolerant and native plants really sets it off too!
Beautifully designed and developed home like to see some interior photos.
