Reader Amie Kershbaum writes to tell us about an interesting take on reality TV, coming to the DIY Network this coming August 16. Over the past several weeks, that television network gave watchers and visitors to their website the chance to vote on the design of a traditional log / timber cabin; the construction itself is viewable now as a time-lapse video, and starting on August 16 (at 9 pm EST/PST), the entire design/build process will be the subject of a new series hosted by Amy Devers, who was not very happy about the bugs she was told she’d encounter during the filming out in the back woods of Tennessee. Blog Cabin will run through September 27.
Fantastic Blog Cabin. Exactly what I have been planning.
I would recommend the defensive shutters be used to protect the windows and inside: from indian attacks with rifle slots. They can remain open unless a storm blows up or a terrorist attack.
Use pre-constructed roof panels with plwood one-side and tougue & gruve pinepanels with R41 under your metal roof. Roof is better insulated and stronger, etc.
Recommendations: 8 foot wide covered porches. This increases the house utility all year round plus protects siding and doors and windows.
Recommendation: I love you log cabin it is everything I have wanted in a log house; including planed logs & dovetail style. What log company did you use? What basic model did you start with?
Recommendation: Maybe too late –Full basement pre-formed concrete — pre-formed walls since log cabin is far along. I would recommended double opening doors on main floor to get large furniture in easily when moving. I have large massive furniture, thus the large 30″ doora won’t work. This includes basement — double opening French doors for same reason. Like storing a 4×4 drive machine or snow- mobile etc.
